ABOUT US
Our History:
St. Patrick School of Santo Domingo is an American-style, monolingual educational institution that opened its doors on March 17, 2005, as a private initiative to support education's noble and important work. The school is located in the city of Santo Domingo, at José A. Aybar Castellanos Street No. 163, La Esperilla. In the summer of 2005, the school received official recognition from national authorities through the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic for the elementary level, and the process for obtaining recognition for the secondary level began, which was achieved in 2008. In December 2006, our commitment to providing a high academic standard earned us accreditation from the Accrediting Commission International (ACI) and membership in the International Schools Association (ISA). In June 2007, the school decided to take steps to adopt a Catholic identity, integrating subjects and activities into its curriculum that promote the highest Christian values. Following a collaborative process involving all stakeholders, St. Patrick presented new Mission and Vision statements to the entire educational community, emphasizing the goal of developing entrepreneurial leaders and the commitment to academic excellence. The “True Mission” emerged as a result of this community-wide commitment to supporting all elements of excellence and quality embedded in our purpose. In 2015, we adopted “The Leader in Me” program in partnership with Franklin Covey International, which supported us in creating a leadership culture through the teaching of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.” The implementation of this program spans all academic areas from K-12 and permeates our entire academic program. Additionally, in 2015, we continued incorporating new quality strategies both academically and in physical infrastructure. We inaugurated a new and spacious school building that houses the early childhood education area and began developing our own K-12 academic curriculum with the help of curriculum advisor Mrs. Linda Law. This curriculum integrated new teaching methodologies across four core areas: Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Training sessions were initiated for all teachers to ensure the effective use of this tool, guaranteeing student learning and skill development. In 2019, we began the international accreditation process with Cognia (AdvancED); however, the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 affected our efforts to continue with this critical quality and continuous improvement process for our school. Aligned with this goal and recognizing that the global education sector was undergoing a transformation due to the pandemic and school closures, in February 2021, we established an agreement with the Maecenas/Didactica Foundation. They supported us in the Pedagogical-Technological Strategic Planning for the years 2021-2024. This partnership included strategic support and training for our teaching staff to ensure that our school remains relevant in a changing world, where the use of technology, digital teaching methods, virtual classes, and hybrid learning environments have become the new educational reality. In June 2021, we finally obtained international accreditation from Cognia.
